Synthroid (Levothyroxine)

Synthroid (Levothyroxine) is a medication used for hypothyroidism healing. Also, the drug can be used to treat other conditions if determined by your health provider or doctor.
Storage. Keep the medication at room temperature; this is about 25 deg. C. Preferably store Synthroid in a place far from light and moisture. Keep the medication far from kitchen and bathroom conditions. Choose the place for keeping meds for children difficult to reach.
Warnings. Do not use the medication with diet pills in order to heal obesity or overweight because you can bring harm, even life-threatening, to your health. Toxicity can appear if lager dose is taken.
Your health condition should also be monitored if you are taking digoxin, warfarin, estrogen products (including estrogen-containing birth control pills), diabetes medicines, amiodarone, iodide, androgens or anabolic steroids, beta-blockers, cytokines, antidepressants, lithium, anti-thyroid agents, high dose salicylates, growth hormones, glucocorticoids, theophylline, ketamine, rifamycins, phenobarbital.
Tell the doctor about the other medical problems including diabetes, heart problems, male or female infertility problems, pregnancy, breast-feeding, hormone disorders, allergies, etc.
Missed dose. Take the medication as soon as you remember incase you forgot take your portion. In any case do not double the dose, as it can lead to overdose. If you see this is nearly usual time for you to take meds, just wait and take a prescribed dose, no more.
Overdose. In case of overdose, contact your doctor or any local poison control center as soon as possible. The overdose symptoms are: extreme nervousness, irregular heartbeat, excessive sweating, chest pain, seizures.
Side effects. The following side effects can be notices: nervousness, sweating, diarrhea, headache, trembling, increased appetite, weight loss or insomnia. If they last long, check with your doctor as the dosage my need to be adjusted.
Here is another side effect but observed rarely: hair loss. It is usually temporal effect happened only in the first stages of the treatment.
Contact the doctor at once if you experience the following: rapid or irregular heartbeat, seizures, chest pain, shortness of breath; swelling of face, eyelids, or lips; difficulty breathing; develop a rash or hives.
Drug interaction. Before taking the medication, consult the doctor, you pharmacist or any health provider if you are using other drugs, as they should be compatible with the given medication.
Before having any emergency treatment or any surgery, warn your dentist or a surgeon of your drug taking.
There are some medications which can be used only if to keep some interval of tame between their takings. Usually four hours should pass between taking Synthroid (Levothyroxine) and such drugs as calcium supplements, antacids (containing calcium, aluminum, or magnesium), iron, simethicone, sucralfate, cholestyramine, sodium polystyrene sulfonate, colestipolor.
For women it is important to warn the doctor about their pregnancy or breast-feeding.
